The Hilltop Region

The Hilltops Wine Region is located in the South West Slopes area of NSW surrounding the towns of Young, Harden and Boorowa. The region is approximately two hours drive from Canberra and three and  half hours from Sydney.

Hilltops is classified 'Cool Climate', having an altitude between 450m and 600m, an annual average rainfall of 600mm, which falls mainly in Winter and Spring, and a long dry Summer with a large diurnal temperature range. All these climatic factors, as well as the rich red granite based soils, provide extremely favourable conditions for the production of quality grapes and premium wines. Nine Hilltops wines recently featured in Halliday's 'Top 100 NSW Wines' and many have won both national and international acclaim at various wine shows.

The Hilltops region has over thirty vineyards but most of the grapes are taken to other regions for processing. Hilltops has only two recognised wineries and a few more cellar doors, but the region has 13 different wine producers. Wines from these producers are available at the "Hilltops Region Wine Cellar" which is located at the Young Visitor's Centre.
