Lockwood Vineyard Wine List

Tasting Notes

2013 SAUVIGNON BLANC  The 2013 Sauvignon Blanc is a well balanced wine with good acidity and alcohol balance. There is a hint of passionfruit on the nose (but not as strong as a NZ Sav Blanc). The palate is delicate, clean and crisp with subtle citrus and passionfruit flavours. Great with seafood.

2012 VIOGNIER  This is an interesting wine which displays hints of ginger on the nose and has a fresh clean palate. Some of the wine spent two months in a new American oak barrel which has helped add complexity We have found it a good accompaniment to spicy chicken and pork dishes.

2013 'BLUSH' This is a Rose style of wine made from late picked Shiraz and pressed soon after crushing. It has a light pink colour, a delicate fruity aroma and a refreshing palate.

2004 CABERNET SAUVIGNON This wine was made from grapes we harvested in our first year at Lockwood. It has a bronze-red appearance with distinctive ripe Cabernet aromas. It is a well structured wine displaying a balance of firm tannin and blackberry fruit. It is still drinking well.

2009 CABERNET SAUVIGNON This wine has a pleasant fruity aroma of plum and blackcurrant with a well balanced palate of fine tannin and dark berry fruit. It can be enjoyed now or allowed to mature and age gracefully over the next few years. It is wonderful with beef and lamb roasts as well as red meat from the BBQ.

2010 SHIRAZ This Shiraz, like all our reds, was made from hand picked grapes and produced in the traditional manner with the use of a small crusher-destemmer and a basket press with manual plunging of the head during fermentation. The wine spent two years in a combination of French and American oak barrels which provided a good tannin structure. The wine has a lively purple-red hue with delicate plum-prune characters and a hint of pepper on the palate which is typical of Shiraz from the Hilltops region.

2011 SHIRAZ-VIOGNIER This wine has a bronze-red appearance with an aroma of blackberry. It is a well structured wine displaying a palate of firm tannin, fruit and pepper. The Viognier component provides the palate with a smooth, silky finish.

2013 TEMPRANILLO Our first vintage of this Spanish variety spent a year in oak before being bottled for the harden Spanish Fiesta in April 2014. The grapes were hand picked and after fermentation were basket pressed. The wine exhibits savoury characteristics with a backdrop of rich berry flavour.
